Again in 2014, Chicago Cubs president of baseball operations Theo Epstein congratulated the Jackie Robinson West staff on its United States title in the Little League World Collection.
“Keep playing the game of baseball,” Epstein stated at the time. “Preserve grinding, preserve working in college, go to school, do your factor, and we’ll see you in the draft in about 2023.”

On Wednesday, the Cubs took Ed Howard IV with the No. 16 general choose in the 2020 MLB Draft.
Howard IV was the star shortstop on that 2014 Jackie Robinson West Little League staff, and he was on the stage at Millennium Park with Epstein to have fun their victory at a rally.
Jackie Robinson West was the first all-black staff to win the United States championship. Nonetheless, months after their victory, the staff was stripped of its title for violating Little League’s residency guidelines.

On the evening of the U.S. Championship sport, the Cubs had been in the center of a protracted rain delay and Epstein recollects catching the Little League sport.
“Our entire team was gathered around a TV set, hanging on every pitch,” Epstein stated. “They were 12 years old themselves, watching you guys play. And when you turned that double play to end it, they were celebrating like they had just won the World Series.”
Howard IV closed the sport on the mound, and he fielded a comebacker to show the game-winning double play.
